Upper Thread
The quality, thickness and material of the thread must be suitable for the selected fabric. To achieve the best results, bernette recommends purchasing high-quality thread.
- Cotton threads are particularly suitable for sewing decorative projects on cotton fabric, such as quilts. As cotton threads are not particularly tear-resistant, they can also be used for basted seams that are later undone. They should not, however, be used for seams that need to be particularly hard-wearing.
- Mercerized cotton threads have a slight sheen that remains even after washing.
- Polyester threads have a high tensile strength and are particularly colorfast. Polyester threads are more flexible and are recommended where a strong and elastic seam is required.
- Rayon/viscose threads are characterized by their bright sheen. Rayon threads are suitable for decorative stitches and create a more beautiful effect.
