Sewing a Hem

The coverstitch is ideal for hems on elastic and knitted material.

  1. Set the machine for the coverstitch.
  2. Mark the hem depth (wrong side on wrong side) and press the hem.
  3. Place the fabric under the presser foot, right side up.
  4. Guide the edge of the hem along one of the markings on the coverstitch insert and sew.
  5. The hem is sewn and finished on the wrong side at the same time.
  7. Cut back any excess seam allowance.
