The screen does not respond

Incorrect calibration data.

  1. Recalibrate the screen Calibrating the Screen
  2. If the calibration cannot be selected in the Setup Program, switch the machine on again while simultaneously pushing and holding the buttons Needle Position Left/Right.

Lock mode switched on.

  1. Tap the Lock icon.

Screen is defective or not connected correctly.

  1. Contact your BERNINA dealer.

Wrong touchscreen pen.

  1. Use other touchscreen pen or finger.

Skipped Stitches

Incorrect needle.

  1. Use the needle system 130/705H.

The needle is blunt or bent.

  1. Replace the needle.

Poor quality needle.

  1. Use a new BERNINA quality needle.

The needle is incorrectly inserted.

  1. Insert the needle with the flat side to the back as far up as it will go into the needle holder and tighten the screw.

Incorrect needle point.

  1. Match the needle point with the textile structure of the project.

Incorrect needle/thread combination.

Speed too Low

Room temperature is too warm or too cold.

  1. Place the machine in a warm room one hour before use.

Reduced maximum speed.

  1. Move the speed control to the right.
  2. Modify the maximum sewing speed in the Settings. Sewing Speed
  3. Modify the maximum embroidery speed in the Settings. Embroidery Speed

The Machine doesn't Start

The machine is not connected to the power supply.

  1. Insert the mains plug into the socket and into the machine. Make sure that the plug is fully inserted into the machine.
  2. Check the socket for power.

Room temperature is too warm or too cold.

  1. Place the machine in a warm room one hour before use.
  2. Connect the machine and switch it on.

The machine is damaged.

  1. Contact your BERNINA dealer.

The needle breaks

The needle is incorrectly inserted.

  1. Insert the needle with the flat side to the back as far up as it will go into the needle holder and tighten the screw.

The fabric has been pulled.

  1. Feed the fabric evenly.

Thick fabric has been pushed.

  1. Use the height compensation tool when sewing over a thick seam.

Knotted thread.

  1. Use quality thread.

The sewing light does not light up

The sewing light is defect.

  1. Have the sewing light replaced by a specialist dealer.

Faulty stitching

Thread remnants between the thread tension discs.

  1. Pull a piece of thin fabric (use folded edge) through the thread tension discs several times.

Incorrectly threaded.

  1. Rethread the upper and lower thread.

Upper Thread is Not Threaded

The needle is incorrectly inserted.

  1. Insert the needle with the flat side to the back as far up as it will go into the needle holder and tighten the screw. Changing the Needle

Needle or presser foot not compatible.

  1. Follow the instructions for the needle threader. Threading the Single Needle

The threader head is defective.

  1. Contact your BERNINA dealer.

Upper thread breaks

Incorrect needle/thread combination.

  1. Match the needle with the thread size.

Upper thread is too tight.

  1. Reduce the upper thread tension.

Incorrectly threaded.

  1. Rethread the upper thread.

Poor quality thread.

  1. Use quality thread.

Damaged presser foot.

  1. Change the presser foot.

The stitch plate or the hook tip is damaged.

  1. Contact your BERNINA dealer to have the damages repaired.
  2. Replace the stitch plate.

The thread is caught in the area of the thread take-up lever.

  1. Remove the screw  on the head cover.
  2. Pull the head cover at the bottom slightly forward.
  3. Tilt the head cover upward slightly and remove it.
  4. Remove the thread remnants.
  5. Attach the head cover and retighten the screw.

Needle damaged.

  1. Replace the needle.

Upper thread indicator fails to respond

The upper thread indicator is not switched on.

  1. Switch on the upper thread indicator in the Settings. Monitoring Sensors

The upper thread indicator is defective.

  1. Contact your BERNINA dealer.

Upper thread indicator reacts too frequently

Upper thread not threaded correctly.

  1. Thread the upper thread correctly. Upper Thread

Upper thread tension too low.

  1. Adjust the upper thread tension. Status Bar Status Bar

The upper thread indicator is defective.

  1. Contact your BERNINA dealer.

Stitch plate not detected

Stitch Plate without sensor.

  1. Attach Stitch Plate with sensor.

Disturbance due to magnetic field.

  1. Remove magnetic accessories in the area of the stitch plate.

Sensor on the stitch plate defective.

  1. Contact your BERNINA dealer.

Embroidery hoop not recognized

Embroidery hoop fitted incorrectly.

  1. Fit the embroidery hoop straight on the embroidery arm of the embroidery module.

Defective Embroidery Hoop

  1. Contact your BERNINA dealer

Uneven Stitch Formation

Upper thread too tight or too loose.

  1. Adjust the upper thread tension. Status Bar
  2. Check the thread feed from the thread spool.

The needle is blunt or bent.

  1. Replace the needle, make sure that a new BERNINA quality needle is used. Changing the Needle

Poor quality needle.

  1. Use a new BERNINA quality needle.

Poor quality thread.

Incorrect needle/thread combination.

  1. Match the needle with the thread size.

Incorrectly threaded.

Incorrect bobbin case is used.

  1. Use supplied bobbin case.

Lower thread too tight or too loose.

  1. Contact your BERNINA dealer.

Dust or thread remnants under the tension spring of the bobbin case

  1. Remove dust and thread remnants.

Lower thread breaks

The bobbin case is damaged.

  1. Replace the bobbin case.

The stitch hole in the stitch plate is damaged.

  1. Contact your BERNINA dealer to have the damages repaired.

The needle is blunt or bent.

Bobbin thread Indicator doesn't react as expected

The bobbin thread indicator is not switched on.

  1. Switch on the bobbin thread indicator in the Settings. Monitoring Sensors

The bobbin thread indicator is defective.

  1. Contact your BERNINA dealer.

Needle Threader Not Threading

The needle selected in the needle selection cannot be automatically threaded, e.g. twin needle.

  1. Single Needle: Select the needle in the needle selection to match the attached needle. Stitch Plate and Sewing Needle
  2. Double and triple needles: Thread the needle by hand.

Automatic threading is not possible with the selected presser foot.

  1. Attach the appropriate presser foot and select it in the presser foot selection. Presser Foot

The needle is bent.

  1. Replace the needle, make sure that a new BERNINA quality needle is used. Changing the Needle

The needle is incorrectly inserted.

  1. Insert the needle with the flat side to the back as far up as it will go into the needle holder and tighten the screw. Changing the Needle

The needle threader is dirty.

  1. Clean the needle threader. Cleaning the Needle Threader and Thread Clamp

The threader mechanism is not in the correct position.

  1. Check the position of the threader mechanism.
  2. If the needle threader is at the front, turn the needle threader slightly to the left until it is perpendicular to the machine head. If necessary, confirm the error message. Rethread the needle.
  3. If the needle threader is not at the front, place your finger below the needle threader and gently press the needle threader upward. Rethread the needle.

The threader head is defective.
